In 1814, Edo (now Tokyo) was a bustling city filled with artists, samurais, merchants, and nobles. One artist, Tetsuzo, was particularly talented, but his daughter, O-Ei, was often overshadowed by her father's fame. Despite this, O-Ei was a gifted painter in her own right, inheriting her father's talent and stubbornness. She often painted in place of her father, but was never credited for her work.
