In a distant future, a new form of immortal life has emerged, known as the Lustrous. These beings, embodying gemstones, live in a world where they are constantly attacked by the Lunarians, who seek to harvest their bodies for decorative purposes. Phosphophyllite, or Phos, is the youngest of the Lustrous at 300 years old, and due to their fragility, is unable to fight. Assigned to create a natural history by their teacher, Kongo, Phos embarks on a journey to find information and meets Cinnabar, a poisonous Lustrous who lives in isolation. Feeling sorry for Cinnabar's loneliness, Phos decides to find a way to give them a better role.
