In a world blanketed by sand dunes, a 14-year-old archivist named Chakuro lives on a massive, ship-like island called the Mud Whale. The island is home to a community of people who possess special powers, known as "saimia," but are also cursed with an early death. Chakuro and his friends have never encountered anyone from outside their island, until one day, Chakuro discovers a mysterious girl on an uninhabited island. This encounter will change his destiny forever.
