What is The Wounds about? Toggle content

In a decaying society, with the backdrop of the Yugoslav Wars,1991-1995, two boys, Pinki and Švaba rise to gangster legends through their pre-adolescence into early adolescence growing up in New Belgrade during the Yugoslav Wars. Their lives take different turns as they get into the world of crime at fourteen, fantasizing about becoming media stars like famous Belgrade gangsters featured on a TV Show, "Puls Asfalta" (Pulse of Asphalt). Their crime escapades see them become influential criminals amidst drug dealers, but their bond is cut short as conflict arises between them as they both have sexual affairs with Lidija, a local television personality; Švaba shoots Pinki five times in the same places Jesus was wounded two thousand years ago. Pinki survives but wounds Švaba three times instead of five, leading to a furious Dijabola - Švaba's best friend who was absent from his life because his father was absent - shooting at them, leading to a shootout that sees Švaba and Dijabola killed. Pinki, wounded and lying on the ground laughs at the audience for how he 'made out better than them." A story of friendship, crime, war, and the decay that festivals through societies despite the efforts to make it work, "The Wounds" is a captivating drama that unwinds intricately entwined lives in chaotic societies.
