In "Pulse," a group of young people in Tokyo must confront a terrifying threat that could bring about the end of humanity. When Michi's co-worker Taguchi is found dead, they discover a mysterious website that asks, "Do you want to meet a ghost?" As more people vanish, Ryosuke discovers an eerie website showing people alone in dark rooms exhibiting bizarre behavior. Michi receives a call leading her to Junko being cornered by a ghost; Junko becomes catatonic and later dissolves into a black stain on the wall. Ryosuke finds Harue in an abandoned factory who shoots herself before disappearing; Ryosuke encounters a ghost while searching for gas and loses the will to live. Michi drags him to safety as they drive through Tokyo, encountering apocalyptic scenery and an American C-130 Hercules airlifter; they discover that the souls of the dead have begun invading the physical world through the internet. As people continue to disappear, evacuations of Tokyo begin and a full-scale ghost invasion is underway; Ryosuke and Michi search for Harue, encountering lonely spirits who want to trap humans in their isolation rather than kill them. They find Harue before she shoots herself, mirroring what she saw on the computer, and Ryosuke enters an abandoned warehouse to search for fuel; in the warehouse, he encounters a ghost who tells him death is eternal loneliness. In the end, three strangers come together to explore a city growing emptier by the day and solve the mystery behind a forbidden room in an abandoned construction site sealed with red packing tape. Will they be able to uncover what lies within and prevent the ghosts from taking over, or will they be consumed by the same loneliness that drives the spirits?
