An auspicious debut for Scott, but one whose ingredients are too familiar to really fizz. Green is great, though, in a dark-tinged role that plays to her strengths.

What is Cracks about? Toggle content

"Cracks" is a haunting and atmospheric drama that explores the dark side of obsession and desire. Set in an elite British boarding school in the 1930s, the film follows a clique of girls who idolize their enigmatic diving instructor, Miss G (Eva Green). When a beautiful and worldly wise Spanish girl named Fiamma Corona (María Valverde) arrives at the school, Miss G's focus is shifted away from the other girls, causing jealousy and tension to rise. As the girls' bullying of Fiamma culminates in a tragic event, the film's title takes on a chilling double meaning, revealing the cracks not only in the girls' relationships but also in the façade of their seemingly idyllic school. With its eerie atmosphere and powerful performances, "Cracks" is a gripping and unsettling tale of the destructive power of obsession and the devastating consequences of jealousy.
