Knight of Cups is a movie that follows the life of Rick, a successful screenwriter living in Los Angeles who is haunted by his past and struggles with emptiness and meaninglessness despite his outward success. Throughout eight chapters named after tarot cards, the film explores Rick's relationships with various women and his journey to find meaning and purpose in his life while dealing with his complicated family situation involving his father Joseph and brother Barry. As Rick navigates through his life, he encounters women who help him grow and learn more about himself. Della, a rebellious young woman, is featured in the first chapter, The Moon, while his brother Barry and father Joseph are central to the second chapter named after The Hanged Man card. Tonio, an immoral playboy; Nancy, his physician ex-wife appear in subsequent chapters, as does Helen, a serene model. Karen is a stripper who is part of chapter VI. Elizabeth, a married woman having an affair with Rick changes everything, whereas Isabel, an innocent who assists him in seeing a way forward, is central to the film's final chapter named after Freedom card. The film explores various themes such as self-discovery, the search for meaning, family dynamics and relationships and features a star-studded cast including Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Natalie Portman and many more talented actors.
