I Am Dina is a movie that tells the story of a young girl named Dina who grows up in Northern Norway during the 1860s. After accidentally causing her mother's death, Dina is left in the care of household servants and grows up wild and unmanageable. She develops a fascination with death and a passion for living, and eventually learns to play the cello. When she refuses her father's arrangement for her to marry an older man, Jacob, he sends her beloved tutor Lorch away, leading Dina to nearly kill him in a fit of insanity. Eventually, Dina marries Jacob and moves to Reinsnes, where she takes over accounting duties and becomes increasingly eccentric. As her husband suffers from gangrene poisoning, Dina takes him on a sled to the top of a cliff and pushes him off to his apparent death. The movie explores themes of grief, passion, and the struggle for control in a society that seeks to constrain women's behavior.
