John McNaughton, inspired by the true case of Henry Lee Lucas, who claimed to have murdered over 300 women, offers a masterly evocation of smalltown low-life and psychopathic sadism.

...there are still some shocks, and an intimation of pure evil as Henry (...) teaches his buddy Otis (...) how to get away with murder.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer about? Toggle content

Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer is a movie based on the true story of Henry Lee Lucas, one of the most prolific serial killers in American history. The film follows Henry's drifter lifestyle as he travels throughout America, murdering scores of people - men, women, and children - without any apparent motive or remorse. When he arrives in Chicago, he settles into an apartment with his prison friend Otis and Otis' sister Becky. As Becky gets to know Henry, she becomes increasingly fascinated by his stories and the two form a bond. However, their relationship is complicated by Henry's disturbing past and his tendency to violence. The film explores themes of psychopathy, sexual violence, and the nature of killing, raising questions about the humanity and morality of its characters. Despite its controversial content, Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer has been critically acclaimed for its unflinching portrayal of a serial killer's mindset and its impact on those around him.
