Brokedown Palace

Brokedown Palace tells the story of two high school friends, Alice and Darlene, who travel to Thailand after graduation. They meet a charming Australian man, Nick Parks, who convinces them to take a side trip to Hong Kong. However, they soon find themselves in a nightmare when they're caught with heroin at the airport and sentenced to 33 years in prison. The girls claim innocence, but it seems like no one believes them. They soon learn that Nick is a drug smuggler who used them as unwitting mules, and they're faced with the harsh reality of life in a Thai prison. Desperate for help, they turn to an expatriate American attorney named Hank Greene. He uncovers evidence that Nick is connected to another drug smuggler and convinces the girls to recant their story and take full responsibility for the drugs in exchange for a pardon. However, the prosecutor double-crosses them, leaving Alice to take the fall and beg the king of Thailand to allow her to serve both sentences in exchange for Darlene's freedom. The movie explores themes of friendship, sacrifice, and the harsh realities of life behind bars.
