The film is at its best when the Redford-Gandolfini face-off holds centre stage: Redford turns in solid work as the military mastermind without ever stretching his range, but this is Gandolfini's gig.

...er i perioder faktisk rigtig god, om end tyndbenet og vildt usandsynlig, underholdning.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is The Last Castle about? Toggle content

The Last Castle is a movie about a highly respected military leader, Lieutenant General Eugene Irwin, who is sentenced to serve a 10-year term in a maximum security military prison for disobeying orders and leading his troops into a mission that resulted in the deaths of eight soldiers. The prison's commandant, Colonel Winter, initially admires Irwin but becomes increasingly hostile towards him when Irwin questions Winter's harsh methods and attempts to unify the prisoners. As the conflict between the two men escalates, Irwin rallies the prisoners to build a "castle wall" of stone and mortar as a symbol of their shared identity as soldiers. When Winter orders his guards to destroy the wall and one of the prisoners who was instrumental in building it is killed by Winter's sadistic sharpshooter Cpl. Zamorro), Irwin mobilizes his fellow inmates for an insurrection against their oppressors.
