In the early 1900s, a young working-class woman named Maria wins a camera in a lottery and discovers an unexpected passion for photography during a time of social change in Sweden amidst poverty war. As she explores this new art form, Maria captures intimate moments amidst hardships through her lens and finds solace from her difficult marriage to a brutal man. Her photographs also draw the attention of a kind and charming photographer, Sebastian, who becomes a source of comfort and support for her. Through her camera lens, Maria learns to see the world and herself in a new light, discovering empowerment and beauty amidst life's challenges.
