...the court martial sequence is gripping enough and the performances, with one crucial exception, are excellent.

Historien gør sit bedste for at portrættere alle som sammensatte figurer, så filmen ligner langt hen af vejen en ganske interessant fængselsfilm.

What is Hart's War about? Toggle content

Hart's War is a 2002 American war drama film directed by Gregory Hoblit and starring Bruce Willis, Colin Farrell, and Terrence Dashon Howard. The film takes place during World War II and follows the story of a U.S. Army intelligence officer, First Lieutenant Thomas Hart (Farrell), who is captured by German forces and taken to a prisoner of war camp. While at the camp, Hart is interrogated by the Germans and subjected to physical and psychological torture in an attempt to extract information from him. Despite the mistreatment, Hart refuses to divulge any intelligence and is eventually transferred to a prisoner of war camp at Hemer, Germany. Once at the camp, Hart meets Colonel William McNamara (Willis), a senior American officer who is responsible for overseeing the other prisoners. McNamara recognizes Hart's potential and enlists his help in planning a daring escape from the camp. As the two officers work together, they develop a close bond and share their personal struggles with each other. Hart confides in McNamara about the injuries he sustained during his capture, including frostbite and nerve damage to his feet. McNamara reveals his own emotional scars, including the loss of his family in a tragic accident. Despite the risks involved, McNamara convinces Hart to help him carry out a plan to sabotage an important German military target. The plan involves using their own military skills and training to stage a mock trial, which will provide a distraction for the German guards while a small team of prisoners makes their escape. The escape plan goes awry when one of the prisoners is killed during the trial, and the Germans begin to suspect foul play. Hart takes on the role of defense attorney for the accused prisoner and must use all of his legal knowledge to prove his innocence before a tribunal made up of German officers. In the end , Hart and several other prisoners are able to escape the camp, but not without sacrifices along the way.
