Familiar as grandad's tea time lectures it might be, but this World War II extravaganza always rewards the return.

En klassisk film och på sätt och vis en av få filmer som lyckats med konststycket att göra något skamligt underhållande av en mänsklig tragedi.

What is The Great Escape about? Toggle content

The Great Escape is a historical drama film based on a true story that took place during World War II. The movie follows a group of Allied prisoners of war who are transferred to a high-security prison camp designed to prevent escapes. Despite the warning from the camp's commander, Colonel von Luger, that any man who escapes will be shot, the prisoners continue to plan and attempt various escape methods. The main characters, including British Group Captain Ramsey, USAAF Captain Hilts, and RAF Squadron Leader Roger Bartlett, are determined to escape and begin excavating three tunnels leading out of the camp. However, their efforts are hindered by the Gestapo's tightened security measures and repeated failures in their escape attempts. As the prisoners work on their escape plan, they face challenges such as avoiding detection by the guards, dealing with traitors among them, and overcoming personal conflicts. Meanwhile, Von Luger becomes increasingly frustrated with the Gestapo's interference and eventually joins forces with the prisoners to help them succeed in their plan. The climax of the film features a daring mass escape involving over 200 prisoners simultaneously fleeing through three tunnels while being pursued by German soldiers. Although many are recaptured or killed during their bid for freedom some manage to evade capture long enough time make it back home or find safe passage elsewhere in Europe leading us into an intense final act where our heroes must rely on cunning wit & resourcefulness at all costs! In conclusion "The Great Escape" will keep you at your seat until its very end thanks largely due too its gripping storyline coupled together alongside outstanding performances across board particularly given Steve McQueen role here - altogether making this one truly unforgettable viewing experience!!
