...en surrealistisk resa genom människans mörkaste delar, och utforskar vad som händer när hon står inför liv och död. Det är en realistisk filmupplevelse där klyftorna i det amerikanska samhället uppmärksammas på ett mångbottnat sätt.

What is Deliverance about? Toggle content

Deliverance is a thought-provoking and visceral film that explores the themes of man vs. nature, city vs. rural life, and the limits of human endurance. The movie follows four Atlanta businessmen who embark on a dangerous canoeing trip down a river in remote northern Georgia before it's turned into a lake. As they journey deeper into the wilderness, they encounter hostile locals, dangerous rapids, and unpredictable weather conditions that push them to their limits. The film opens with an iconic dueling banjos scene between Drew (Ronny Cox) and a young banjo-playing boy at a local gas station. Despite the initial friendly exchange, tensions rise as the boy refuses to acknowledge Drew's friendly handshake, foreshadowing the conflict between the city boys and the rural locals that will unfold throughout the movie. As the four friends continue their journey, they become separated and face individual challenges that test their courage and resourcefulness. Ed (Ned Beatty) and Bobby (Burt Reynolds) are confronted by two mountain men who subject them to a terrifying ordeal that culminates in rape and murder. Meanwhile, Lewis (Jon Voight) displays his rugged outdoorsmanship by killing one of their attackers using his bare hands but ultimately succumbs to injury from another assailant's bullet wound; Medlock limps away from this encounter seriously wounded after getting shot in his leg by an angry hillbilly who was seeking vengeance against him for slaying his relative earlier on during this excursion downriver with friends from town whom he had just met that same morning at breakfast time when everyone was feeling fine until Nature became overwhelmed due too much testosterone fueled aggression combined with ignorance regarding proper survival techniques needed when venturing out onto open waters without proper training nor experience.. This leads us straight into an explosive climax involving gunfire between Mountain Man & Sheriff Bullard!
