The Beta Test: A Hollywood Agent's Descent into Anonymity In this dark comedy-thriller-horror movie, Jordan Hines (Jim Cummings), a successful Hollywood agent is about to get married to his fiancée Caroline (Virginia Newcomb). However, his life takes a drastic turn when he receives a mysterious letter inviting him to an anonymous sexual encounter at a hotel. Despite initial hesitation, he eventually decides to go for it, leading to a night of sin that changes everything. As he becomes increasingly paranoid about the encounter, Jordan embarks on a mission to uncover who sent the letter and the identity of his sex partner. His investigation leads him down a dangerous path where he uncovers a sinister plot involving data algorithms, social media scrubbing, etc. All this obsession with secrecy leads Jordan to drift apart from his fiancée Caroline and even his best friend PJ (PJ McCabe). The movie takes a dark and unexpected turn when Jordan tracks down Johnny Paypal (Kevin Changaris), who confesses to sending the mysterious letters. Jordan is shocked to learn that he was not the only one who received such a letter and that tens of thousands of new letters will be sent out, and nothing can stop it. In the end Jordan is left shaken with no answers, losing control over his life. The Beta Test explores themes such as paranoia, obsession, toxic masculinity etc. in a world where technology and data can be used to exploit people's deepest desires. Ultimately it's an unpredictable ride into the dark side of human nature, social media, and technology.
