Watcher is a 2022 American-Romanian horror thriller film directed by Chloe Zhao and starring Maika Monroe, Karl Glusman, and Burn Gorman. The movie follows Julia, an American woman who moves to Bucharest with her husband Francis, and becomes increasingly paranoid when she suspects a local serial killer is stalking her. As she delves deeper into the mystery, Julia's fears are heightened when she learns of a decapitating serial killer in the city. The movie explores themes of isolation, paranoia, and the blurred lines between reality and delusion. The film opens with Julia and Francis moving into a new apartment in Bucharest, Romania. Julia quickly becomes unnerved by a man who watches her from the building across the street. Her fears are further heightened when she learns about a local serial killer dubbed "the Spider" who is targeting young women in the city. Despite Francis' skepticism, Julia becomes convinced that the man watching her is the serial killer. She befriends her neighbor Irina and begins to investigate the man's identity. As Julia delves deeper into her investigation, she discovers that Irina has gone missing after working at a strip club where the janitor also works at; this raises more suspicions for Julia as she now believes that there might be more victims of "The Spiders". The police do not take her concerns seriously until one night when they finally agree to accompany Julia to Daniel's house (the supposed Spider). However upon arrival Daniel denies all allegations brought against him by an increasingly irate Julie demanding answers for why he has been stalking her; he says he does not know what she’s talking about—claiming instead that his life as caretaker for his sick father makes him lonely so sometimes he just watches people through his binoculars out of boredom…he even invites them inside for tea! But things take yet another twist: just then they hear music coming from over at Irina’s place because someone had left it on loud enough for everyone on their floor to hear…and then we see what appears like movement behind curtain number three before everything goes black again(unsure if its part two).
