In the late 19th century, a young boy named Pelle and his father Lasse leave their home in Sweden to start a new life on the Danish island of Bornholm. They dream of finding work and saving enough money to travel to America, but instead, they are met with harsh treatment and discrimination. Despite the struggles, Pelle learns Danish and makes friends with a fellow worker named Erik, who shares his dream of "conquering" the world. As they face numerous challenges, Pelle becomes determined to leave the farm and make a better life for himself. Will he be able to overcome the obstacles and achieve his dreams?
