In the rural village of Nong Pradu, Thailand, a sacred Buddha statue named Ong-Bak is revered by the local villagers. When the statue's head is stolen by thieves from Bangkok, a young martial artist named Ting is tasked with retrieving it. Ting travels to Bangkok and meets up with his cousin Humlae, who introduces him to the city's underground fighting circuit. Ting's extraordinary fighting skills grab the attention of Komtuan, a powerful crime lord who uses a wheelchair and needs an electrolarynx to speak. Ting learns that Don, a drug dealer, had stolen Ong-Bak's head to sell it to Komtuan. After a series of intense fights and chases throughout the city, Ting discovers Komtuan's cache of stolen Buddha statues submerged underwater. He also rescues Muay Lek, a street vendor who was kidnapped by Komtuan's thugs. In exchange for Muay Lek and the Ong-Bak head, Komtuan demands that Ting fight his bodyguard Saming in a brutal battle near the Thai-Burmese border. Despite being forced to throw the match against Saming due to drug enhancement, Ting and Humlae subdue Komituan's henchmen and head to a mountain cave where they defeat the remaining thugs and Saming. However, during their escape from Bangkok they are confronted by several long-time enemies whom they had defeated earlier in their journey . With their incredible courage they defeat all their enemies although critically injured during fights but never give up until all foes laid down . They manage though heavily injured make it back safely home bringing back lost treasure back home . Upon arriving home ,the entire village celebrates since at long last "Ong -bak" has finally returned after some many years away .
