In the remote Arctic wilderness, a proud Inuit man named Noah Piugattuk has lived and hunted by dogteam all his life, just as his ancestors did before him. But when a chance encounter with a white man known as "Boss" opens up the prospect of momentous change, Piugattuk is faced with a difficult decision: should he move his band to settlement housing and send his children to school, or hold fast to their traditional way of life? As the Canadian government's agent, Boss is determined to convince Piugattuk to adapt to modern society, but the Inuit leader remains steadfast in his refusal to participate. With the threat of forced relocation looming, Piugattuk must weigh the future of his people against the pull of their ancestral land. Will he yield to the pressure to conform, or will he fight to preserve the only way of life he has ever known?
