The Help

The Help is a movie that takes place in Jackson, Mississippi, in 1963. It tells the story of Aibileen Clark, a black maid who works for a wealthy white family, and her friend Minny Jackson, who works for another wealthy family. Aibileen's employer, Elizabeth Leefolt, is emotionally neglectful of her two-year-old daughter Mae Mobley, whom Aibileen has raised since birth. Minny works for Mrs. Walters and her manipulative daughter Hilly Holbrook, who leads the women's socialite group. Skeeter Phelan, a white woman and recent college graduate, returns to Jackson and becomes aware of the systemic racism in the city. She decides to write a book about the experiences of black maids like Aibileen and Minny. Despite facing opposition from her friends and family, Skeeter persists in her efforts to tell the stories of these women. Along the way, she forms strong bonds with Aibileen and Minny and learns about their struggles and triumphs as black women in a society that demeans and oppresses them. The movie explores themes of race relations, discrimination, friendship solidarity among Black people working as domestic workers during civil rights movements..
