From Here to Eternity tells the story of Private Robert E. Lee Prewitt, a skilled boxer and soldier who transfers to a rifle company at Schofield Barracks on the island of Oahu in 1941. Prewitt's refusal to join the company's boxing team leads to conflict with his captain, Dana "Dynamite" Holmes, who makes his life miserable and orders First Sergeant Milton Warden to prepare a court-martial. Prewitt finds support only from his close friend, Private Angelo Maggio, and begins a romantic relationship with a woman named Lorene. Meanwhile, Warden starts an affair with Holmes' wife, Karen, who encourages him to become an officer and leave Holmes. The film follows the lives of these soldiers and their personal struggles as they face the impending attack on Pearl Harbor.
