In the small town of Mount Rose, Minnesota, beauty pageants are a beloved tradition. The annual Sarah Rose Cosmetics American Teen Princess Pageant is about to take place, and a TV crew has arrived to document the event. Among the contestants are Becky Leeman, the daughter of the richest family in town; Amber Atkins; and several other colorful characters. As the pageant approaches, strange events start to occur, including contestants being injured or killed in unusual accidents. Despite this chaos; Amber decides to stay in the competition to make her mother proud. The night of the pageant arrives; Amber performs a stunning tap dance number, while Becky sings "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" accompanied by a life-sized Jesus doll on a crucifix; The pageant announces; Becky wins, but she dies in a tragic accident during her victory parade; Amber is crowned the new pageant winner, but the state competition is a disaster, and the national pageant is canceled due to tax evasion. The film ends with Amber becoming a TV anchor for Minneapolis-St. Paul WAZB-TV, realizing her dream of becoming the next Diane Sawyer.
