The Red Tent tells the story of Dinah, a powerful woman in the Old Testament, and her journey through love, loss, and redemption. From her childhood in the red tent,ès where women shared their traditions and secrets), to her arranged marriage to Prince Shalem, Dinah finds herself at the center of a dramatic storm that threatens her family and her faith. After her father, Jacob, is furious that she has not been consulted about her marriage, her brothers Simeon and Levi slaughter all the men in the city in retaliation for a perceived slight against their family's honor. Dinah curses her father and brothers for their actions and is forced to flee for her life. She gives birth to a son, Bar-Shalem (son off the sunset), whom her mother-in-law, an Egyptian princess takes to safety Thebes. Dinah spends ten years as a slave, watching over her son as he grows up thinking she is his handmaiden. When her son is sent away to become a scribe, Dinah released from service, but stays in Thebes, waiting for his return. When he returns, he discovers his true identity and confronts his mother, feeling she is guilty of his father's murder. Dinah leaves and begins a new life, practicing midwifery again. She is summoned to help the wife of the Vizier of Egypt give birth, only to discover that Ra-Mose (her son) and the Vizier (her brother Joseph) are the ones who have summoned her. After Joseph's wife gives birth to a boy, Ra-Mose begs his mother forgiveness. Overhearing their talk., Joseph's brother attempts to kill him, thinking he partook in his father's murder, before Dinah convinces him of mistake. Enraged Joseph orders execution, but eventually relents an commutes the punishment banishment after Dinah intervenes on her son's behalf; Ra-Mose assumes the name Bar-Shalem chose by his mother. Shortly after, they learn that Jacob is dying and wishes see all children. Initially refusing to see her father., Dinah agrees2 to meet him after Joseph convinces here that it's time to put the past to an end.. Traveling with her brother and husband, she meets her youngest brother, Benjamin, and reconciles with Jacob before he passes away. After visiting red tent one last time6, Dinah knows she has found peace and closure with her family and her past.
