What is United 93 about? Toggle content

United 93 is a powerful and thought-provoking drama that recounts the tragic events of September 11, 2001. The film takes place on board United Airlines Flight 93, which was hijacked by four al-Qaeda members, along with three other planes, with the intention of crashing them into high-profile targets in Washington D.C. and New York City. The passengers, including Tom Burnett, Todd Beamer, Jeremy Glick, Richard Guadagno, Louis J. Nacke II, and Lauren Grandcolas, among others, are unaware of the terrorist attacks that have taken place in the country. As the hijackers take control of the plane, the passengers and crew begin to realize that something is wrong. The film depicts the courageous actions of the passengers, who band together to fight back against the hijackers and take control of the plane. They learn about the other attacks through family members and airphone calls, and realize that the hijackers have no intention of landing and are on a suicide mission. The passengers, including Burnett, Bingham, Beamer, Glick, Guadagno, Nacke, Grandcolas, and others, form a plan to retake the plane, with assistance from flight attendants Sandra Bradshaw, CeeCee Lyles, and the flight staff. They arm themselves with weapons and learn that passenger Donald Greene is a licensed pilot and passenger Andrew Garcia is a former air traffic controller. As they prepare to take action, Haznawi and Nami become increasingly anxious, realizing they are losing control of the situation. The tension builds as the group of passengers pray and make final calls to loved ones before embarking on their mission to overpower the hijackers. Despite the odds against them, they are determined to save their lives and prevent the plane from reaching its intended target. Directed by Paul Greengrass, United 93 is a powerful tribute to the memory of those who lost their lives on that fateful day. It is an emotional reflection of what happened during those 90 minutes in the air and serves as a testament to the bravery displayed by the passengers and crew of United Airlines Flight 93.
