Les Misérables

In 19th century France, Jean Valjean, a man wrongly imprisoned for stealing food, is released after 19 years and sets out to redeem himself. He encounters Bishop Myriel, who shows him kindness and teaches him the value of compassion. Valjean flees when caught stealing from Myriel, but the bishop's generosity and forgiveness inspire him to become a new man. Nine years later, Valjean is a wealthy industrialist and mayor, but his past comes back to haunt him when he is pursued by Inspector Javert, a relentless policeman who believes Valjean is still a criminal. Meanwhile, Fantine, a single mother working at one of Valjean's factories, is fired when her employer learns she has a daughter out of wedlock. Desperate for money, Fantine turns to prostitution and is arrested by Javert. Valjean, who has become obsessed with Javert, demands her release, citing his authority as mayor. As the revolutionaries take to the streets, Valjean must confront his past and protect his loved ones from the relentless pursuit of Javert.
