In the small Serbian village of Guča, the air is filled with the sound of trumpets as the world's largest trumpet festival takes place. Amidst the cacophony of music and celebration, three musicians from different backgrounds come together to represent their unique perspectives and talents. Zlatne Uste, an improbable New York brass band, journeys to Guča to represent the United States just a decade after NATO bombs rained down on Belgrade. Demiran Ćerimović, a world-renowned Roma trumpet player, fights against deep-seated racism for the chance to earn money for his family. And Dejan Petrovic, the 25-year-old reigning champion of Guča, returns to defend his title. Brasslands offers an intimate and sometimes disturbing look at how the hopes and fears of these diverse individuals collide as they search for common ground and musical ecstasy.
