... colorful, heartwarming and surprisingly fun, and Flamin’ Hot is far from the only movie of its kind to tell a tall tale disguised as an account of actual events.

What makes it disarmingly watchable are the goofy, lovable, charismatic performances from Garcia and Annie Gonzalez (as Judy, his loyal wife); and the lively, stylish direction from Longoria.

The production designers and hair-and-makeup department seem to have had fun recreating the period-specific looks and aesthetics that facilitate the characters’ evolutions.
